Steve Suissa born December 7, 1970 in Paris, is a French producer, director, director, screenwriter and actor.

After an acting career where he played in around thirty films and television films and around twenty plays, he became a director with a first film L'Envol, released in 2000. At the same time, he staged around fifty plays theater .

Childhood and education

Born in Paris in the heart of the Faubourg Montmartre, Steve Suissa grew up in a Jewish family2 in one of the working class neighborhoods of the capital. Raised by his grandparents, he watches his illiterate grandfather work tirelessly.

As a teenager, he spent his time on the terrace of the Café des Folies, opposite the Folies Bergère. He sees dancers, artists parade. He perceives the contours of the theater. It is by observing these daily scenes that he decides to work in this world, that of the spectacle. However, his family strongly opposes it. So the young man goes to work at Rungis where he unloads tons of meat in the evening for a few dozen francs. This allows him to pay for his acting lessons.

Steve Suissa entered Cours Florent in 1989 with the intention of starting an acting career.

Career

From 1990, Steve Suissa multiplied the shootings in the cinema (New wave, Nine months, Serial Lover) and also on television; he thus turns about thirty telefilms in supporting roles.

In 1998, he created his production house Les Films de l'Espoir. From then on, Steve Suissa will produce plays, The Kiss of the widow of Israel Horovitz or Barefoot in the park of Neil Simon, for which Béatrice Agenin was named to Molières in the Actress category in a supporting role.

In 1999, he co-produced and directed his first feature film, L'Envol, which won numerous awards, including the award for directing and the awards for female and male interpretation at the Moscow International Film Festival. During the ten years which follow, he connects the cinematographic productions, Le Grand Rôle, Cavalcade, Mensch, which obtains the Prize for the best scenario at the Sarlat Festival. He works for television: Stalked, Too full of love. He discovered and supported a pool of young talents such as Isabelle Carré, Clément Sibony, Marion Cotillard, Lorànt Deutsch, Bérénice Bejo, Titoff, Nicolas Cazalé.

Steve Suissa also directed Le Mystère Bizet at the Opéra Bastille, and La Flûte enchantée by Mozart for Opéra en plein air.

In 2012, Steve Suissa ceased to be a former student of Francis Huster to become his director. He thus stages the actor in Bronx, from Chazz Palminteri to Bouffes-Parisiens. The duo then took charge of the Rive Gauche theater in Paris. The two artists work together on Anne Frank's Diary by Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt, 250 sold-out performances and a tour of 80 cities. And The Clash of Bill C. Davis. 300 performances and a tour of 90 dates, where Francis Huster shares the poster with Davy Sardou, who obtains for this play the Molière of the actor in a supporting role.

Between 2013 and 2016, Steve Suissa staged no less than fifteen plays with his accomplice and privileged partner Francis Huster, but also with Marianne James (Miss Carpenter3), Martin Lamotte (The Guitrys4), Claire Keim, Jean-Claude Dreyfus (La betrayal of Einstein5), Michel Sardou (Si on recommencais6), Jean-Luc Reichmann (Hibernatus7) or Clémentine Célarié (24 hours of a woman's life8).

In 2014 he directed at the Comédie des Champs-Élysées If we start again? a creation by Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt, with among others Michel Sardou and Félix Beaupérin, nominated in Molières in the male theatrical Revelation category, after having presented at the Théâtre Rive Gauche La Trahison d'Einstein, by Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt, with Francis Huster and Jean-Claude Dreyfus, Georges and Georges by Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt, with in particular Davy Sardou and Alexandre Brasseur, then Le Joueur d'écchecs, by Stefan Zweig, adaptation of Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt, with Francis Huster, appointed to Molières in the Alone on stage category.

At the start of the 2015 school year, he signed the staging of Avanti! by Samuel A. Taylor, adapted by Dominique Piat, in which he directs notably Francis Huster, Ingrid Chauvin, and Thierry Lopez, nominated in Molières in the actor category in a supporting role.

In September 2016, Steve Suissa signs the production of Laurent Ruquier's new play Right to left, with Régis Laspalès and once again Francis Huster. The success was such that the play remained on the bill at the Théâtre des Variétés throughout the 2016/2017 season.

Meanwhile, he creates on a boat in Venice the show Passionately Toscanini with Francis Huster and the musician Giovanni Bellucci, and continues with a big project on the life of the piano virtuoso Vladimir Horowitz, where music mixes with the great pianist Claire -Marie Le Guay, cinema with scrolling images, and the life of Horowitz, interpreted by Francis Huster.

He is also the founder of the 1st French theater festival in Israel which took place between October 22 and 30, 2017 in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem9. This first edition of the festival made it possible to present 5 representations of French-speaking shows, including Unknown at this address with Thierry Lhermitte and Francis Huster, L'être ou pas with Pierre Arditi and Daniel Russo, Horowitz the pianist of the century with Francis Huster and Claire- Marie Le Guay and the last show by François-Xavier Demaison. The public was there, since the plays were all sold out.

Same success for the second edition held from October 23 to 31, 2018, this time in 4 cities of Israel: Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Netanya and Ashdod, where the public warmly welcomed Richard Berry, Patrick Timsit, Fanny Cottençon, Andréa Bescond and Francis Huster.

In parallel, he staged two creations in 2018:

Ich bin Charlotte by Doug Wright (Pulitzer Prize for dramatic text) at the Théâtre du Chêne Noir for the Festival d'Avignon with Thierry Lopez, who alone plays around thirty characters, resumed at the start of the autumn at the Théâtre de Poche-Montparnasse.

Laurent Ruquier renews his confidence by proposing him the staging of his last play. As long as he is happy, with Francis Huster, Fanny Cottençon and Louis Le Barazer, playing at the Antoine Theater.

For the past few months, he has also been the author, producer and director of religious programs on Sunday morning Judaism on France Télévisions. He created and implemented a new concept on worship and culture: "Originally. The first show in this series aired on Sunday September 8, 2018, the day before Rosh Hashana 5779.

2019 was an exceptional year for Steve Suissa with the staging of 6 shows: Transmission with Francis Huster and Valentin De Carbonnières, Samia with Malyka R.Johany, Fleurs de Soleil after the text by Simon Wiesenthal with Thierry Lhermitte, Bronx with Francis Huster, Le Temps d'un Violon with Cécile Bens' and Le plus beau dans tout ça by Laurent Ruquier, with Régis Laspalès.

And as every year now, the third edition of the French Theater Festival in Israel was held during the All Saints holidays, which was held from October 27 to 31, 2019 in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, and always welcomed Ary as warmly Abittan for his show My Story, Richard Berry for Plaidoiries II, Francis Huster for Bronx and Thierry Lhermitte for the world premiere of Fleurs de Soleil.

To conclude this incredible year, Steve Suissa opened a theater school in Israel, School M, in Tel Aviv, Netanya and Ashdod.
